Jeannine was born in a little village in the beautiful canton Lucerne in 1986, where she finished elementary school in 1999. After three years of high school, she entered grammar school and successfully completed her Matura in 2006. To improve her English and calm her wanderlust, she visited Australia the same year and stayed there for four months. In 2006, Jeannine started her chemistry studies at the University of Zurich and received her Bachelor’s degree in 2010. Before joining the Gasser group, she was part of a project in the group of Prof. Heinz Berke, where she tried to improve Rhenium catalytic systems for hydrogenation properties.
In her Master thesis in the Gasser group, she worked on the preparation of organometallic anthelmintic drugs. She successfully passed her exam in December 2011. After a few weeks holiday, Jeannine started her PhD thesis in the same group in January 2012.
In addition to her chemical activities, Jeannine is attending Spanish classes to improve her language skills to survive during her next journey to a foreign continent, which will be South America.
One of Jeannine’s favorite sports activities is swimming. She was working as a lifeguard in the Swiss Paraplegics Centre Nottwil.
At home, Jeannine has her private collection of three lab rats (Roxy, Lilli and Bijou), which are lucky enough just too cute to be part of her chemical career.
