Karen grew up in a town near Munich, Germany, and recently started her Master’s studies at Leipzig University. For her Bachelor thesis, she worked on the synthesis of potential photosensitizers for PDT, which prompted her interest in this research field. In 2018, she undertook a research internship on fluorescent imaging agents under the supervision of Dr. Lee Higham at Newcastle University. Since February 2019, she is working on the preparation of Ru(II)-based PDT photosensitizers in the Gasser and Thomas groups.
In her free time, she enjoys playing volleyball, violoncello, hiking and spending time with friends. She also has a great interest in arts.
