Maria José was born in Lisbon, Portugal in 1993. She obtained her MSc in Pharmaceutical Sciences in 2016 from the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Lisbon (FFUL). During her Master degree, she joined Dr. Pedro Gois group to work on Chemical Biology and later, she did a 3-month internship at Sapienza, Università di Roma in Medicinal Chemistry thanks to the Erasmus Programme. Currently, she is pursuing her PhD degree at FFUL (supervisor: Dr. Pedro Gois) in a joint project under the co-supervision of Dr. Gilles Gasser. In the Gasser group she is working on new bioconjugation strategies applied to targeted photodynamic therapy.

Maria José enjoys travelling, swimming, concerts, organizing dinners with friends and eating Italian food.
