Philipp was born in Würzburg in Germany, but moved with his parents soon after to Friedberg, near Augsburg. He attended there his elementary, secondary and high school years. He spent also one year in St. Charles, MN, USA as an high school exchange student.

Afterwards, Philipp returned to Franconia to study Molecular Science at the University of Erlangen-Nürnberg (2005-2010). During his Master thesis, he worked in the group of Prof. Rik R. Tykwinski on synthesising new pentacene-derivatives and on studying their aggregation behaviour.

In 2010, Philipp moved to the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology of Zurich to undertake a research stay in the group of Prof. Franziska Schoenebeck. There, he studied reaction mechanisms.

Since April 2011, Philipp is pursuing his Ph.D. studies in the Gasser group. He is currently working on the development of new anticancer metallodrugs.

Philipp likes to go skiing in the winter time and hiking in the summer. He therefore enjoys living so close to the Alps!
